  • Job Description:

    ​Continental Western Group has a great opportunity for an individual who has been adjusting moderate to high complexity commercial  casualty claims and is ready to bring that experience to a company that offers opportunities for professional growth. 

    The Sr. Claims Rep must be able to handle complex coverage, liability and damage issues and manage litigated claims.  The incumbent will also mentor and coach claims staff.

    The person selected can work from either our Des Moines, IA, Luverne, MN or Lincoln, NE offices.

     

  • Qualifications:

    ​Education and Experience:

    • *Bachelor's degree; 3-5 years casualty claims adjusting experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • *Claims coursework including, AIC, SCLA or CPCU

    Skills and Abilities:

    • *Strong customer orientation
    • *Ability to actively listen and effectively communicate with all relevant parties, i.e. policyholders, claimants, witnesses, attorneys, etc.
    • *Problem analysis and problem resolution skills
    • *Ability to negotiate claims expeditiously and in a cost effective manner

  • Job Description:

    Continental Western Group is currently seeking an experienced commercial lines underwriting manager to effectively manage a commercial underwriting unit that services the states of CO and WY. 

    The candidate selected will direct the underwriting unit through delegation of authority to underwriting staff in accordance with established underwriting guidelines.  Interviews, hires, and onboards new employees.  Trains, coaches and develops talent within the underwriting unit to ensure a staff capable of carrying out underwriting initiatives.  Accountable for performance management including managing annual goal setting, conducting performance evaluations, developing career plans and providing specific constructive feedback through daily interaction with underwriting team as well as through the referral of accounts process.  

    Oversees and directs the team to ensure team/state business plan goals are met through file audits as well as through portfolio and agency management.  Travels underwriting territory on a regular basis to enhance agency relationships, promote profitability and growth of new business and the retention of existing business. 

    Underwrites accounts exceeding authority level of underwriting staff.  Determines accurate classification of business, policy contract forms and pricing of risk.  Refers accounts exceeding regional authority to the Home Office Underwriting Department.  

    Provides input into the research, development, marketability and rate adequacy of new products and product enhancements within the region.

  • Qualifications:

    Education and/or Experience:
    * Bachelor's degree in insurance, finance or related field; a minimum of 10 years commercial lines underwriting experience; a minimum of 3 years' experience managing/supervising inside and field underwriters or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  
    * Well rounded experience and an in-depth knowledge of Commercial insurance programs, policies, practices, coverages, forms and underwriting strategies
    * Advanced insurance education or willingness to pursue, e.g., INS, AU, CPCU, CIC

  • Job Description:

    Continental Western Group is currently seeking an experienced commercial lines underwriting assistant to work in our Denver office. 

    The candidate selected will support assigned Underwriters by reviewing incoming correspondence and applications to determine proper procedural action.  Examines information provided in the application and related resources to determine if risk meets established eligibility guidelines. Consults agent or obtains reports for Underwriters when additional information is necessary.  Routes risk-involved matters that are beyond assigned authority level to Underwriter for evaluation. Maintains established department service and quality standards. 

    Prepares quotes or accepts and prices new commercial property/casualty accounts that meet established risk selection criteria and are within the Underwriting Assistant's assigned authority level.  

    Evaluates renewal commercial property/casualty accounts and endorsements, within authority level, by reviewing updated account information, claims experience, loss control surveys, risk acceptability and pricing.  Consults agent for additional information when necessary.  Within authority, determines if account will be renewed or cancelled.   

    Develops and maintains professional, productive working relationships with agency force to encourage profitability, growth and good understanding of our Company's pricing and risk selection philosophy.  Assists agents with questions regarding accounts and billing.

    Education and/or Experience:
    * Associates Degree from college or technical school; or two years related work experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Commercial rating experience desired.

    Responsibilities will include: 

    • Assessing business operations to identify loss exposures
    • Consulting with policyholders and underwriting to determine hazards, level of exposures and controls
    • Create technical risk reports for underwriting to be utilized in the underwriting/risk selection process
    • Partnering  with accounts and agents to improve customers' understanding of risk and methods of reducing risk

    Ideally, the person selected will live in the Denver area.

  • Qualifications:

    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree in occupational/industrial safety, engineering or fire protection
    • 3-5 years of progressive multi-line insurance loss control experience
    • Advanced education desired, i.e. ASP, CSP, CFPS or ARM designation 

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

    • Highly effective communication skills including presentation skills
    • Strong customer orientation and interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively interact with policyholders, underwriting, claims, agents, vendors and etc.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of property, business auto, liability and workers' comp exposures and controls.  This includes knowledge of regulatory compliance standards associated with OSHA, NFPA, DOT, etc.
    • Problem analysis and problem resolution skills

    A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record and the ability to travel on a regular basis is required.
