  • Job Description:

    ​The Great Mountains Region is seeking a Business Support Specialist to assist with regional projects.  The position is responsible for retrieving data, creating and distributing various weekly, monthly and quarterly scheduled and ad hoc reports for managers using various databases and company operating systems.  Examines report data to ensure reliability and accuracy through proper documentation and cross-referencing of data sources.  Provides management with a summary of collected data identifying trends or discrepancies.  Additional duties include data entry, preparing communications for internal and external use, assists with Sales and Underwriting ad hoc projects.  The position will also coordinate travel plans and organize / schedule meetings, conferences, luncheons, agency reviews, and help with business promotions. 

    This is a part time position working 25 hours per week.

    ​Associate's Degree or 2 years related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Qualified candidates will possess general knowledge of commercial insurance policies and practices.   The successful candidate must be able to keep information confidential; effectively prioritize, organize and manage projects and assignments from multiple sources; respond professionally to customer inquiries; and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and with external customers.  Must possess strong customer orientation, accurate data entry skills; interpersonal and communication skills; and a commitment to company values.  Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office products and the ability to navigate on-line reference materials necessary.

  • Job Description:

    ​Continental Western Group is currently seeking an experienced commercial lines underwriting manager to effectively manage a commercial underwriting unit that services the states of IN, IL and MI. 

    The candidate selected will direct the underwriting unit through delegation of authority to underwriting staff in accordance with established underwriting guidelines.  Interviews, hires, and onboards new employees.  Trains, coaches and develops talent within the underwriting unit to ensure a staff capable of carrying out underwriting initiatives.  Accountable for performance management including managing annual goal setting, conducting performance evaluations, developing career plans and providing specific constructive feedback through daily interaction with underwriting team as well as through the referral of accounts process.  

    Oversees and directs the team to ensure team/state business plan goals are met through file audits as well as through portfolio and agency management.  Travels underwriting territory on a regular basis to enhance agency relationships, promote profitability and growth of new business and the retention of existing business. 

    Underwrites accounts exceeding authority level of underwriting staff.  Determines accurate classification of business, policy contract forms and pricing of risk.  Refers accounts exceeding regional authority to the Home Office Underwriting Department.  

    Provides input into the research, development, marketability and rate adequacy of new products and product enhancements within the region.

  • Qualifications:

    Education and/or Experience:
    * Bachelor's degree in insurance, finance or related field; a minimum of 10 years commercial lines underwriting experience; a minimum of 3 years' experience managing/supervising inside and field underwriters or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  
    * Well rounded experience and an in-depth knowledge of Commercial insurance programs, policies, practices, coverages, forms and underwriting strategies
    * Advanced insurance education or willingness to pursue, e.g., INS, AU, CPCU, CIC

    Summary

    The Loss Control Manager directly supervises a team of Loss Control Representatives and Specialists.  Translates department strategic objectives into daily decision making and implementation.  Manages the day-to-day operations of the Loss Control Department, sets priorities and utilizes staff and resources to maximize efficient performance and support the business goals of the Company. 

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    Leads and manages a team of Loss Control Representatives and Specialists. Allocates, assigns and monitors loss control resources to assure efficient workflow and quality loss control services.  Attracts, selects, develops and mentors high caliber talent to ensure established customer service, quality and productivity objectives are met.  Effectively manages staff through active performance management and implementation of a meaningful development process.  Clearly communicates performance expectations and provides frequent and specific constructive feedback to staff.  50%   

    Analyzes work of staff for compliance with best practices and to optimize operation of the department; directs implementation of necessary changes to existing operations, and sets departmental strategies.  Confers with management to identify, plan and develop methods and procedures to obtain greater efficiency, which may include the coordination of functions between various areas within the company including Underwriting, Claims and IT.  15% 

    Identifies and coordinates training opportunities for loss control and underwriting staffs, agency partners and insureds in conjunction with company initiatives, emerging industry issues and market changes.  10% 

    Builds strong, distinctive strategic partnerships with internal and external business partners.  10% 

    Maintains a working knowledge of industry trends and impact of company activity and implemented programs and policy.  Provides guidance and technical advice to underwriting and claims management regarding Loss Control issues, product selection, state reporting requirements, claims trending, and insurance to value on property.  10%

    Prepares departmental budget, which includes forecasting FTE, salary budget expense, travel expense, training and equipment needs and submits to Loss Control Director for annual budget preparation.  Manages budget throughout the year.  5% 

    Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    Directly supervises staff of field Loss Control Representatives and Specialists.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university with a preferred emphasis in occupational/industrial safety, agricultural science, engineering or insurance; or ten years related experience with property/casualty loss control; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Strong demonstrated leadership abilities highly desired.  Must have in-depth technical experience in loss control disciplines.  Training/presentation experience desired.

    Works closely and proactively with Loss Control leadership.  Builds and maintains productive relationships with internal business partners including Underwriting and Claims to service customers as a unified team and deliver loss control services that address customer needs.  Shares trends, best practices and conducts training when appropriate.  20% 

    Plans, creates and delivers specific technical training programs and materials to the field loss control team.  10% 

    Coordinates the development and dissemination of safety reference materials designed for agents and insureds.  Assists in the planning, development and facilitation of risk control workshops, seminars and other training for internal and external business partners.   10% 

    Monitors, researches and updates staff on material changes to local, State and Federal safety laws.  10%
